    Default Gift

I have been looking over the site and have found some information on this subject, but here is the question. A friend of mine wants to give me a handgun that belonged to his late father-in-law as a gift. Here is what i found in the reference library:

    (3) Nothing in this section shall be construed to prohibit the loaning or giving of a firearm to another in one's dwelling or place of business if the firearm is retained within the dwelling or place of business.

I have no intention of shooting this as it is not my kind of firearm-it is a long barreled 22 WMR. Am I OK to accept this and leave it in the safe after reading # 3 above, or must we go through an FFL? Thanks in advance and I'm sorry if I put this in the wrong spot. BTW- I have a LTCF in Pa. and Utah.

There is some ambiguity with 6111 vs. 6115.

To be safe I would recommend getting it transferred by an FFL in accordance with 6111

After posting on a public board, I would transfer it through an FFL. Actually, I would transfer it through an FFL in any circumstance. I'd rather be sure I'm legal.
    George,
So many guns, so little money.

What I will do is just politely decline the offer. I can't justify the bother and expense for a gun that I will not shoot. Thank you for the advice.

Am I assuming correctly that this is a handgun not a long gun? I know you said long barrel, but that doesn't really say which.

$20-30 for a free gun? ...that you could keep as an investment, or trade/sell now or later towards something that you may use??

I'll come take possession of the gun and pay for the transfer.
