Volquartsen Compensator for Ruger MK III?
Does anybody have any experience with these things? Do they actually make a difference? Do you need a compensator on a .22? Did those new Stars Wars movies suck ass? (Of course they did. Nevermind that...)
Anybody? I'm just looking to play with my MK III a little. Looking at a Volquartsen trigger kit too.Selling off a a sizeable Spyderco collection here

Re: Volquartsen Compensator for Ruger MK III?
I have no experience with the compensator. Shoot standard velocity ammo and the recoil is almost nonexistant. GET THE KIT. Put it in yourself. It will take a bit, but you will know how the pistol functions at the completion of the job. Volquartsen has a great video showing the install on youtube. (They make it look a little easier than it is) It makes a big difference. The poundage will be around 2.5#. The best part of the kit is the adjustable trigger. You can set it for virtually no creep and no overtravel. Well worth the money.

Re: Volquartsen Compensator for Ruger MK III?
I put in the VQ kit and started getting a lot of light strikes. I put the stock hammer back in and they went away.
This may also be that it was a brand new gun. It may smooth up and take the lightweight hammer later.
The kit IS awesome, makes the trigger so much lighter.
I have also looked at the VQ comp and wonder about it... I've removed the front sight for a red dot anyhow, so...
If you get it, let me know how you like it!

Re: Volquartsen Compensator for Ruger MK III?
From people I have talked to and reviews I have read, they very rarely ever fit properly.
A few reviews from midwayusa

The grips for the Ruger MK III are very comfortable to use and easy to install. The main problem is the grips are so large that you need a removable post (provided) to release the magazine. It's difficult to retrieve (locate and insert) the post each time you need to remove the magazine (you can leave it inserted in the provided hole in the grip, but I'm afraid that it may fall out ang get lost during shooting). Botttom line is the grips would be better if provided with a permanent pin installed in the grips to remove the magazine with. I would not have purchased the grips if I had known about the magazine release (jerry rig) problem on the grips.

Just received and mounted these grips to my Mark III. Just as in several other reviews posted here, the fit was unacceptable with a large gap at bottom heel where the two grips meet together. Perhaps some super glue might fix the problem if I intended to use these target grips 100% of time. Unfortunately, I intend on changing grips to fit the type of shooting. I was told by Nic, one of the techs at Volquartsen, that they had fixed the issue of warping and fit caused by some early poor molds, but evidently the older inventory of substandard grips has yet to be cleared out of Midway's warehouse. I would have been satisfied had the fit met my expectations of a $60 pair of target grips. As expected, Midway will provide refund. May reorder once I am guaranteed the grips I receive are worthy of the price.
