    Default Which .22 for accuracy

I'm interested in getting a .22 pistol for plinking. I'm not looking to spend a ton up front (about $350-$400) but want something that I can put more money into and tweak down the road. I know there are a ton of aftermarket parts for the Ruger pistols, but should I try and get a used Mark I or II or go the 22/45 route?

I had a 22/45, was my first pistol actually, and I traded it toward my Marlin 39a.

    Any thoughts?

I have a Mark III, not the 22/45 with the heavy 5 1/2" barrel. I can't say enough good things about it. Here is a photo of it updated with Ruger thumbrest grips, Volquartsen accurizing kit including the trigger and slide release, and topped with an UltraDot Matchdot.

With .22's it seems to be about ergos......

I'd not trade my Marvel/STI conversion for anything. But....for what feels good in the hand the Ruger 22/45 is rockin'.

The Volquartsen accurizing kit is available. I edited my post to add a pic of my MKIII.

Thumbs up Re: Which .22 for accuracy

I have a Ruger Charger with a 1st generation Holosite on it and it's the most fun gun I own. I can shoot bottle caps with that set up at 40 yards, all day long. I say 40 cuz that's as far as I've pushed it so far. With a match grade barrel and better optics, a trigger kit, I'm sure I can push it beyond my own personal limits.

But there are barrels, stocks, triggers, sights, flash suppressers, black gun bolt ons, etc available for that gun.

It's just a really neat gun and it's easily in your price range.

Probably a trigger kit, thumbrest grips, compensator. I know that the 22/45 doesn't lend itself to grip changes.

    Go with a standard MKIII.

Concur, go with the bull barrrel MKIII. You can get aftermarket grips, sights, triggers, springs, etc. to make it a super accurate gun.

Too bad you don't have a bit more money to spend, I'm going to be selling a friends S&W Model 41 (unfired, LNIB w/both 5" and 7" barrels).
