It's down to two - help me choose
Ok all after extensive research & touchy feeling just about every " Full Sized Metal" 9MM available I've pretty much boiled it down to these two;
BERETTA 92FS - About $600
CZ 75B - About $500
I shoot a lot, (about 600-700 rds a month) I don't reload & am concerned about ease of maintenance & longevity. Both are more accurate than I'll probably ever be. Neither one will be used for carry purposes, or critical for home defense. I really just enjoy shooting the 9MM format. I do not have unlimited funds so value is important. It will be purchased new & will be the base plain black entry version. I'm not into customizing or adding accessories & will leave either one the way it comes out of the box. Both feel great with the very slightest of an edge going to the Beretta. Using the above criteria which would you choose? As always I appreciate any & all comments. Thanks!Last edited by triplebike; March 14th, 2010 at 02:02 PM.

I have never fired a CZ but I love the 92FS.

I guess by the pic my suggestion is obvious. I know its not around the corner but if you are ever up in Lebanon in Lanc county a shop called Shydas stocks a full line of Berettas and has either made in th US or Italian blued 92s nib for 529.

MMMMMMMM CZ-75...
for the extra $100 you'd be saving on the CZ, you can buy a competition hammer, lighter main spring and recoil spring and make the trigger a 3-4lb trigger!!!!Last edited by andrewjs18; March 14th, 2010 at 03:17 PM.

Have multiples of both. Can alter triggers and lock time on both if you have a modicum of skill. I personally prefer the CZ for his grip angle, but I would suggest trying both at a rental range with a couple of hundred rounds through each. A point, if you are like Andrew, a southpaw, then the CZ85 is the one to compare the 92 with as the 75B is meant for right-handers. I showed Andrew the 85 and the 75 which is where I learned of his "disabiliity!!!!" Dave_n

I'm not familiar with CZs, but I do own a Beretta 92FS. They are built to last and reliable. I got mine for $425 used in excellent condition.

Re: It's down to two - help me choose
my suggestion would be a CZ75B(And I love Beretta).
Main reason?
CZ75B is an all steel gun. Where as 92F/S is steel/aluminum gun.
When put side by side, and everything else being equal, steel always outlast aluminum.
Beretta's open slide design is elegant to look at, but put side by side, CZ's more conventional port ejection design is much stronger then that of Beretta 92F/S's open top slide. Infact, slide did failed on enough of early M9's that they revise the design detail(am not sure what they did - I know that on current model, if slide do come apart during shooting, slide would not fly out towords operater's face as early failed M9 did)
Now, Beretta 92Brigadier, it may be stronger, but still don't change the fact its strengthend slide thats weak in the first place.
Slightly heavier steel gun, when everything else is equal, is always easier on recoil too.
But since you did mention longevity, CZ is obvious choice here.
Second reason?
92F/S's front sight is not dovetailed or pinned. if you ever want to add night sight to it, you'll either have to have dovetail machined(means $$$), or have trijicon drill hole to install tritium bar(as my 96D is, and not cheap to replace).
CZ75B is pinned. You want night sight, knock the pin out, install new NS, reinstall the pin, and your good to go.
With that being said, I owned several Beretta 92's in the past, and currently own 96D, and have yet to own 75B.
Not that I don't want to, just that I never came accross one that I want(75B SS model) or good deal on one..Last edited by Mity2; March 14th, 2010 at 04:21 PM.

Re: It's down to two - help me choose
I'd lean to the Beretta. Though for the $100 modification mentioned,, makes it tougher. lol. I'm looking to get a 9mm conversion kit for my XD 40 for simular reasons, less expensive now and in the long run.. more I can save for the next purchase.
