Default Conversion Kit vs. .22 Pistol

I'm getting sick of trying to find affordable 9mm ammo, so I'm looking at something in 22lr. I have been going back and forth between the Advantage Arms conversion kit for my Glock 19, or a S&W 22A. I like the idea of the conversion kit because it would feel the same in my hands and trigger feel would be the same. Disadvantages is they are impossible to find and they actually cost more than the Smith. With the Smith, I can save some money and have the advantage of having another gun. Any thoughts?

I considered getting a .22 conversion kit when I turn 21, but like you said a good kit costs nearly as much or more than a new pistol. I've never looked at the ones for Glocks, but the ones I saw for 1911s start around $200. IMO, it's just not worth it; you're getting half a gun for nearly full price. I ended up getting a Ruger MkII gifted to me and couldn't be happier with it. Considering that S&W, Ruger, Beretta, and Browning all make a well-liked .22 semi pistol in the $200-350 range, I'd get another gun if I was you.

A conversion kit used on your carry gun gives you the advantage of practiceing more with the carry gun.

I'd snatch up an AA .22 Glock kit in a second if they were available.

Says they will be available soon!

But then again you can buy alot of cheap 9MM (close to a 1,000 rounds) for the cost of the kit.

I think he was talking about the conversion kit for $200, not the gun

I can understand wanting a .22 LR pistol, but, I just can't understand anyone wanting the S&W 22A or its' Walther cousin. No one I know that owns one is happy with them, they just seem to break after a couple thousand or so rounds. Sorry, but that has been my experience with them.

I own a Marvel Unit 2 Gov't Round Top that I fit to a Series 80 Colt frame. It has fully adjustable sights. It works fine, but it is not as accurate as the base pistol. Although I admit I haven't fully wrung it out with different ammo to find the best.

But, all those who're suggesting a conversion for your carry gun are giving you a good solution. The only thing you'll miss will be the price of the ammo and the felt recoil of the larger caliber. But, everything else from draw and presentation to firing controls and trigger pull will be the same. Go for it!

for a 22 semi pistol it's either the buckmark or ruger's mark pistols. all others are several large steps behind.

I have a Browning Buckmark and that thing is pretty damn sweet.

I also have a Kimber .22 conversion for my SA 1911 Mil-Spec. The finish or whatever they use on it looks cheap, but I haven't had any issues with it yet.

Well I got really drunk last night and decided to go ahead and add another pistol to my meager collection. Ordered a Ruger Mark III from budsgunshop and am just waiting for it to come in. I can't wait!
