Monroe county references
So, many of you know, the Monroe county sheriff is known for tagging on extra (illegal) requirements for getting a LTCF:
All references MUST be full time MONROE COUNTY, PA. residents only! Family members or those who reside at the same address as you are NOT acceptable. References can not be related or reside at the same address as one another. You must provide their complete home mailing address and phone number. If any of your references fail to return the questionnaire within the 45 days, your application will be denied.
All the friendships I've established since moving to PA are with people who are either family (in-laws), anti-gun, or live in another county.
So, anyone in Monroe county willing to spot me a ref? I've wanted to get a LTCF since I moved, but haven't been able to.
PS: Thanks to Steve_NEPhila for suggesting that I make a thread for this... I don't know why I didn't do it sooner.
EDIT: Dammit, I should have posted this in the Monroe county section. Sorry.Last edited by snakeman21; March 19th, 2010 at 01:22 PM.

Re: Monroe county references
Good idea posting for references.
I think that all firearms owners in monroe county should get together, and when this idiots term is up vote him out of office.

Re: Monroe county references
is so and so trustworthy, stable in the head, etc., most likely. i haven't filled one out myself, but my own refs had to.
there's also one about how long you've known them, which is the only hard one in our situation.
technically these cards are probably invalid anyway, since the county isn't supposed to do any of this, but....hmm, maybe i should run for sheriff. (if i did, God save the antis)ONE TO THE HEAD!!!!

Re: Monroe county references
The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.
Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

Re: Monroe county references
I moved here from Washington State and ran into this same issue.
The trouble was that the deputy at the front desk is unwilling to be reasoned with. He would not even accept my application.
I inquired of him how it was that the sheriff could add more requirements than proscribed by the legislature? I showed him credentials of over 150 hours of defensive and tactical handgun training certification also included my NRA pistol instructor certification.
I was unemployed and could not show proof of paying the state income tax and argued that was another item not mandated by the legislature. He would not budge.
Finally I called sheriff Martin (and it took about 7 tries to actually get him on the phone) and spoke with him. I was very firm but respectful and stated that he was not in compliance with the law. He began to back peddle. As an extra step I went to the state representative for this district and made my case to him. He in turn called the sheriff and then they decided to accept my application.
I got the permit after 45 days. It seems clear to me that this guy does not want to issue the permits and plays loose with the rules. I suspect he thinks most folks will eventually give up. I was determined to get the permit. Persistence Furthers! While I was there I also got my finger prints done to send in for the Florida permit which allows concealed carry in 33 states.
What Monroe County really needs is a challenger to go against this guy because from my perspective he is a bad joke.
DON'T GIVE IN. BE FIRM AND RESPECTFULLY DEMAND THAT YOUR RIGHTS BE RECOGNIZED.
Best of luck.Last edited by twoguns; March 19th, 2010 at 08:09 PM.

Re: Monroe county references
Todd Martin in every other aspect of his job has done an excellent job. I some respects I like the requirements and wish they were actually law. There is too much fraud and transient bull shit that takes place here and 99.9% is from the east.
That being said a challenge of his methods of license issuing should be mounted by those that disagree. If what he`s doing isn`t proper a court will make a decision.
