Monroe county references

Todd Martin in every other aspect of his job has done an excellent job. I some respects I like the requirements and wish they were actually law. There is too much fraud and transient bull shit that takes place here and 99.9% is from the east.
That being said a challenge of his methods of license issuing should be mounted by those that disagree. If what he`s doing isn`t proper a court will make a decision.

And considering that the last candidate to seriously challenge Sheriff Martin was against CCW and IIRC inferred that he would make getting a permit in Monroe County harder than New York City... I got my first permit when Forest Sebring was Sheriff and I forget the guy's name who Dept. Bentzoni replaced, but you guys have no idea how much more professional and courteous the process is now than it was then. Basically, he would look down at you and growl something along the lines of "I can deny your permit for any reason I feel like..." I guess trying to be intimidating and "large and in charge" and God forbid if you did not know the proper size photos to bring with you. Also, prior to Sheriff Martin, you did not get a reminder in the mail when you were due to renew.

You to are 100% correct! Not only was obtaining a carry license a severe pain, but also trying to get a NFA signoff was almost impossible!

We wont make any progress untill we stop blaming eerything on "transients" -read people from New York and New Jersey, the courts have already spoken, it is clear in the laws what is required to obtain a LTCF, we dont need no more ruling on Sherriff dept. antics, we need to get them to follow the laws of Pennsylvania.

When somebody is allegedly violating a rule, ordinance or law and refuses to stop doing so then suit or a complaint has to be filed with the authority charged with monitoring that activity. People have written and attempted to "get them to follow the laws"
With all the noise makers that have inundated our county it seems amusing that not one has put their money where their mouth is. IMO I want people to prove they actually live here, pay taxes here and have some sort of reference before they get their license or at least somebody blow up the Delaware River crossings. "Houston we have a problem" in Monroe.

uhhh the transients are the problem... i don't know why we would stop blaming everything on them? Actually they are an EXPANDING problem as they spread further and further from the burgs to the country areas.

While I am not a big fan of the 2 Monroe county references I'm not going to fight it either.

The process for my wife and I to get our permits was very painless and the deputy at the desk was actually very nice to us, he even gave Conner a stuffed animal that he had laying around. Then again I'm also clearly not from NY/NJ and I didn't go in with an attitude.


Heck they even sent me a letter telling me that someone hadn't returned one of my cards and asked if I had another reference that I wanted to have fill it out! They could have easily denied me for references not responding

HA, we haven't had a good bomb threat to that bridge in a while. Gee wasn't it something like every other year or so someone would call one in. I guess they moved out of the area and don't care who comes across anymore.

We had no problems getting our LTCF's and Sheriff Martin was the one we dealt with both times we went in. He never asked why, was courteous and we even had a laugh about the pic taking (I wasn't ready for the snapshot and will never show it unless I'm being arrested ). Sure it might be a pain and not a required part of the application, but to most Monroe residents we don't mind if you have to prove that you actually live in this county/state and know at least two other people that live here.

Remember the outrage from everyone a few years ago when that truck wrecked on the bridge and lit it on fire (closing it for like 6 months)? "They aren't working fast enough for us and we contribute sooo much the community" ahhh good stuff

Hell I'm from NY, so I guess to you I am a problem. And for your information when I lived in Monroe I never went in there with an attitude and I was treated very nice. I had the same problem with one of my references and they called me to tell me the person never sent it in.

The big issue that most of us residents have is the when people who move here then bitch and moan because they don't like something that is in place strictly because of the number of people that moved here with them.

I've been here since 80 (when I was born), my parents moved here from Ohio in 1978 or so, Ex-Biker's been here longer I think so we've watched as this area moved from a "1 murder / decade" and you always knew who it was within a day to one a month and 1/2 are unsolved, crime rates skyrockets... and a good 95% of the issues can be traced directly to NY/NJ
