    Default RIA commmander parts

I own a Rock Island Armory .45 commander. It is a compact .45 with an 8+1 capacity. It's a great gun, but I am getting terrible hammer bite when I shoot it, as the hammer is overextending past the dovetail and chewing up the web of my hand. I'm interested in adding a flare dovetail, and possibly a skeletonized hammer while I'm in there. Does anybody know what kind of parts would work on this gun? Its a little big of a strange .45 in that it's design is compact, but I think it utilizes a full length guide rod.

any standard 1911 parts will work, as long as you get the correct size. if i'm not mistaken, the Commander should be able to take Gov't parts for the frame.

You can use any aftermarket standard 0.25"Dia. Beaver tail grip safet on them. You WILL need to alter the rear tang to install one for high ride beaver tail grip safet, however.
There are some BGS out there that requires no modification to the frame, but they are not highride, nor look nice. As ugry as they are, they do serve to protect ur hand fron hammer bite.

Regarding skeltonized hammer - I believe commander style hammer is required to install highride BGS, as original Spar hammer would interfere with new BGS...

I've found std 1911 fit my compact 1911 but they have all needed slight "tweeks" which I hear is normal. A little shave here, and tweek there, and all works well - good luck !
