A visit to Country Knives Inc. is SO-SO...
Country Knives is a cozy family-owned and operated business built onto a house in Intercourse, PA. I must say, this is the largest (museum-level) collection of contemporary knives I have seen in one location and I do credit them for that. They must have every single model of Swiss Army, Benchmade, Spyderco, and SOG on display to fondle and drool over. You are guaranteed to find something you'll like among the thousands of knives to choose from. Also, customer service is cordial, prompt, and personal. However, their prices are just plain rediculous. Price tags are almost always hidden beneath the knives themselves, with the exception of the vertical display cases. When you do ask for prices, you may find they are asking for more than the MSRP on everything. To summarize, I would take the trip to Country Knives to check out anything new or interesting, remmeber the make and model, then order from YourCornerStore.com or NewGrahamknives.com.
P.S. - Even their prices for knife sharpening are pretty high.

Re: A visit to Country Knives Inc. is SO-SO...
do they let customers at least handle the knives? that's my biggest concern with buying knives. i can go to any gunshop and pick up a gun to see if i like how it feels, but there are practically zero knife shops anywhere. there was one in Wilkes-Barre, but the owner now just uses the store as a warehouse and runs an e-store though it.
i'd be willing to take a drive to the store just to have a chance at handling some blades i've been interested in.Last edited by jahwarrior72; March 18th, 2010 at 05:03 PM.

I love knives, and I've been wanting to visit Country Knives for a long time. I have to get out there sometime soon.

Yeah it is a very nice store...I expect the prices are so high because it is a tourist area.

They do let you handle whatever you want to look at, which I credit them for. Another I forgot to mention is that they don't seem to have that big of a display of survival-style knives, like Ontario, RAT, or Falkkniven.

I'll back up the warrior.
I have not been there in about a year.
Really impressive selection.
Above retail prices on many pieces I have examined.
I did eventually buy one piece.
Kershaw Chive in black (when it first came out, black was somewhat rare).
Cool little pocket knive.
Paid full retail.
Good people to talk to.

My biggest gripe with Country Knives is the same as the OP - way too expensive. Usually I stop out there, look at the knives I'm interested in, and go home and buy them online. Occasionally I will buy a knife from them, but only if it's within a reasonable range of MSRP and really have to have it that day. That doesn't happen very often.
Nice folks to deal with, though.

I've kind of been interested in getting a Gerber Guardian backup knife ever since recently seeing one of the Tomb Raider movies. I hesitantly asked the salesman how much it would run me to find out it was a dissapointing $76. I've seen this knife between $40 and $50 on the reputable dealer websites and even cheaper on ebay. I also asked if they had anything similar to it and unfortunately they didn't.
I guess the sky-high pricing is because it's a tourist trap. I can't imagine their being much overhead involved in running a business out of your house.
