Default Time for a new pistol, .22 or 1911?

I've got the itch again, but I can't decide if I want to pick up a RIA 1911 (praised highly by a few members) or a .22 of some sort. I've wanted a 1911 as long as I can remember, but a .22 is just so damned cheap to shoot..... Decisions decisions.... Anybody got a .22 for sale?

Easy Answer: Get what you want.

So many times people feel like settling on something they truly don't want, because it's a few bucks cheaper, or whatever. Sure, ammo prices play a role in the decision making process. However, if you truly have your mind on a .45, and have wanted one for awhile, go for it. Just keep in mind that ammo will be more expensive.

    That's just me though.

Get the best of both worlds, get the 1911 and a .22 conversion kit.

Seriously, much depends on what you already have. If you already have a 9mm and a .38 spl and want something that is fun to shoot as well as cheap to shoot. Get the .22.

If your heart is screaming for a .45, ask yourself if you want the .45 because it is cool or because you want to shoot it.

Over the decades, I've known people who bought .380s or Makarovs or Tokarevs because the gun was cheap. Then they never shot it because ammo was expensive.

If you get the .22 you can shoot all day for the cost of one box of .45 ammo. All that shooting, even if you have only the vaguest of plans, cannot but help your overall shooting skills. If you get the .45 and only shoot once every two months because of the cost of ammo, you won't be helping yourself.

Agreed. 1911 conversion kits can be had for $200-$300... Best of both worlds.

I say fuck it...get them both. If you are anything like me, you will end up with both of them anyway. If you buy the .45 1st, you will be happy for a month or so when the cost to feed it starts to catch up...If you get the .22 1st you will wish you had the 1911... Just get them both and save yourself a trip...

An excellent suggestion, but one thing I failed to mention, this is probably gonna have to be a bargain buy. I'd love to go pick up a nice Kimber and a Stainless Ruger, but I'm broke as all hell. I'm thinking a RIA or maybe a used Springfield as far as 1911's go or a Ruger .22, I've always heard nothing but great things about them, and ammo is really starting to break my back, shooting .32 and .357. Maybe a Browning, or even the Sig Misquito.

I'd love to hear any other suggestions you guys have. Thanks for the advice so far.
