What are the regulations regarding shooting on private land?
With most of the public state ranges shut down in SE Pennsylvania area. I need to find an alternative.
My mother-in-law's boyfriend's son is talking about putting a personal range (ie: just backdrop in front of a hill and some shooting points - not like an official range or anything) on the 30 acres he bought.
I am just curious regarding the legality of such, requirements, etc. Is one legally allowed to shoot on their own property, and if so, are there any stipulations.

Ask the township what their rules are. What may be good in say Beaver or buttler might not work out in Washington or Allegheny.

The restrictions may be in your Zoning Ordinance with respect to "noise". Although with 30 acres to work with it sounds (pun intended) like he is in a rural area and there should not be a problem.

every single township is different and it will differ. Some will be zoning, sound ordinances, distance from surrounding buildings, it just depends, and you have to find that out from your own personal area to be sure.

Had me, too. Read it, thinking about it, thinking about posting a reply. Maybe we can find out how it all worked out?
