Default Sign in OHIO. NO Guns Allowed

With my Utah Permit on its way soon I hope. I was reviewing Ohio's Carry Rules to make sure I knew where I could and couldn't carry. I know that a business can order a sign to put up in your place of business, but it isn't like these. Any idea if these are legal, and what they mean exactly. I took the pics below, last year. One was at a big Family Campground. The other was at a big field that was used for camping for the Jamborree in the Hills.

Now, according to the sign. No guns can be carried. But what about having one in a lock box inside my car, till I leave the premises? Would that be in violationg of these signs?

They just have a semi-auto handgun in the circle with the red line, so revolvers must be OK, huh?

Well I don't really have an answer for your question... but I do thank you for posting that list of places we can't carry in Ohio. I'm moving there this summer and so I've been unsure of the laws there. If you ever find anything more on Ohio's carry laws please add them to this post.

    Statutory Reference(s): R.C. 2923.126(C) allows private employers
to prohibit the presence of firearms on their property or
in motor vehicles owned by the employer.
R.C. 2923.126(C)(3) allows the owner or person in control of
private land to post a sign in a conspicuous place that prohibits
persons from carrying concealed firearms on that property.
That is from the pdf booklet covering CC you can download at the Ohio AG's website.

Found this. But it doesn't really explain much. But this is the signage that I am seeing. I don't know if this is something you can just decide to put up.

    Private Property and the Workplace
Under the law, private employers may, but are not required to, prohibit the presence of frearms on their property or motor vehicles owned by the employer. You should make yourself aware of your employer’s policies before you go to work with a handgun. In addition, the owner or person in control of private land or premises or person leasing land or premises from the government may post a sign in a conspicuous location that prohibits persons from carrying frearms or concealed handguns.Ohio law provides that a person who knowingly violates a posted prohibition of a parking lot or other parking facility is not guilty of criminal trespass but is liable for a civil cause of action for trespass.Furthermore, a landlord may not prohibit or restrict a tenant with a concealed carry license from lawfully carrying or possessing a handgun on residential premises.
    Signage
The law does not say precisely what language must be on the sign. At a minimum, signs must be conspicuous and inform people that frearms and/or concealed handguns are prohibited. However, the law suggests that the prohibited locations post a sign that substantially says the following:
Unless otherwise authorized by law, pursuant to the Ohio Revised Code, no person shall knowingly possess, have under the person’s control, convey, or attempt to convey a deadly handgun or dangerous ordnance onto these premises.
An example of a standard warning sign approved for use on state buildings appears below. If you see this sign, it means that you cannot bring your concealed handgun inside. Businesses and persons wishing to post such signs are strongly advised to consult their legal counsel for language, style, format and placement. The sign is available to download from the Attorney General’s Web site at www.OhioAttorneyGeneral.gov(page 23) at no charge.

FWIW I would rather carry my firearms into a hotel room than leave them in the car to be stolen.

I visited my brother in Ohio a few weeks back and found it really carry-unfriendly. It might have been that when we visit we tend to go to places that are off limits: restaurants that serve alcohol, museums, etc. It's a must-inform-officer state, and a loaded magazine/speedloader anywhere in the vehicle "loads" that gun in the trunk. I left the gun locked up at my brother's place except when we went to the range.

Yes those signs are legal, and carry the weight of law.

ANYONE that owns property can put up signs preventing you from carrying onto their property - business, campground, etc. etc. So yes they can "just decide" to put them up. That's no different than here in PA where private property owners can bar you from carrying on their property.
