Any time you fire in a house, you have some wall penetration concerns. I don't have any neighbors, and I know where the kids rooms are. So, wall penetration is not a major conern. Once I know where the kids are, any wall can be removed (Via Shotgun Slugs) if need be.

I'm cutting the barrel off my shotgun myself. Will this make a difference in what rounds you guys are recommending.
Collateral damage issues might dictate different rounds, but you're GTG. Have at it then.

He has a 12 gauge Remington 870 magnum. Outside of small game, the .410 isn't a great choice for an "all around shotgun". I question the thought process behind using one for self / home defense as well.

But I would rather have one than nothing.

    Centurion makes that.

    Centurion Multi-defense buckshot

That would be 1; .65 caliber ball - and 6 #1 Buck shot.

    I have some.

Hmmm, that is one interesting round you go there. One big ball and a couple smaller ones. Sounds like a great all around shotgun round.

Why aren't they more popular? What is the bad side of these things.

If I could only have one I would have to go with #4 buck. It is small enough that it won't completely blow a rabbit to ribbons and I know that I wouldn't want to face 21 .24 caliber balls flying at me.
