Wear and tear on snap caps?

Finally got some snap caps last week, trying to do more dry firing. Is this much wear on the primer pads normal? This is my first set of snap caps. Worried if it digs out too much it wont be hitting the pin and serving a purpose.

Those snapcaps do wear out rather quickly. I prefer the AZoom snap caps. They will wear out, but not nearly as fast as the plastic/brass snapcaps will - http://www.azoomsnapcaps.com/

Being metal bodies they should also last longer for different jamming scenarios you might set up for your gun.

Guess I'll just start shooting more real ammo , was expecting longer life out of snap caps when I bought em. Thanks for the link guys.

+3 on the A Zooms. I have both styles and the A Zooms seem to be the better design.

I don't know if you reload but if you do you can make your own snap caps. Take empty cases, deprime, drill two holes in the case so that they are visually known to be empty, seat a bullet in it, and then use a hot glue gun to fill the primer space with glue. Trim the "glue primer" with a razor blade so that it is flush. This glue from the glue stick has a pretty good rebound to it and will absorb the firing pin strike nicely. When it wears out, you dig it out and put new glue in there.

I do reload and thats a darn good idea! I've got everything needed to do that, why didn't I think of that!

Any suggestions for a couple for 22LR without spending a buck a piece for the snapcaps which are said for rimfire to only last a few hits? Can i just nail polish a few spent casings and put in the cylinder (revolver)?

For times in a group when we are to only fire 6 (my cylinder fits 8)

No no no, dont waste your money. i discovered a way that makes you spend virtually no money and you can use them way more...

1. just get a empty canterfire shell that you want to make a snpacap with.

2. remove primer.

3. take a eraser off of a pencil.

4. put glue in the primer pocket of empty shell.

5. put eraser in primer pocket.

6. let glue dry and trim away excess.

Now you have snap caps that virtually cost you no money. you can do this over and over. have fun and stay safe.
