Probably flying to California this summer... questions
I know you can legally bring a firearm on a plane (not on your person of course)... you just have to fill out some forms and it depends on the legality of firearms at your destination.
This leads me to my first question: if LA is my destination, can I bring my firearm on the plane? Assuming that I can do that, would I be able to put it in my friend's car while following the Federal firearm transportation laws and keep it with me at my friend's home for the duration of my vacation? If I can do that, what about open carrying an unloaded firearm in LA county? I know OC is the big thing in a lot of cities in California, but what about LA?
I know this is the PENNSYLVANIA Firearm Owners Association, but some of you guys are well versed in your national laws. Thanks in advance.

You better check into CA's laws at a more informed site. I think the open carry thing might require "unincorporated" counties or areas. ....ie: rural and lessor municipalities.
Also, you will be bound to magazine limits too.RIP: SFN, 1861, twoeggsup, Lambo, jamesjo, JayBell, 32 Magnum, Pro2A, mrwildroot, dregan, Frenchy, Fragger, ungawa, Mtn Jack, Grapeshot, R.W.J., PennsyPlinker, Statkowski, Deanimator, roland, aubie515

The fed transportation doesn't cover you if you are visiting a state, you must be just passing through with no real stops.

What type of handgun is it? be aware that certain handgun configurations are illegal in CA notably threaded barrels... additionally bringing any magazine with a capacity over 10 rounds would constitute the importation of a high capacity magazine as far as I know, which is a felony in CA.
