Here is a question for you to ponder. If the officer insist that he take your weapon for his safety, BLAH BLAH BLAH. Would it not make sense to say.

"Could you have a supervisor come to this scene, before anyone touches my weapon?"

We have heard this for officer safety often enough. How do we know that this is the departments policy and not just the officer that has stoped you?

I like both of these. I would probably do/say both. Just makin sure none of these uneducated Philly cops get all itchy and decide to blow me away.

But, then again, the supervisors here in the "Cesspool of the southeast" aren't much more educated than the people they're in charge of.

This "officer safety" crap is just a typical cop powerplay. They want/need to demonstrate to you that they have power and you don't. In the states where "officer notification" is required by law, the power hungry cops have convinced the hopolophobe lawmakers that their safety is at risk and we all know that police safety trumps civil rights or even the safety of citizens with the exception of politicians and celebrities.

I don't think it would matter. Would the officer want to wait on the side of the road for the supervisor to show up?

Here in Philly, I would just assume the cop would call it in as an "person with a gun/ officer assist" and pretty soon, you'd have 100 cops show up, just waiting to shoot you.

Not me I don't live in Philly.

This might happen once maybe even twice. Then it would get old. Then the officer calling wolf will be straighten out by his superiors.
