    Default 50 cal. muzzle loader

I went shooting after the show at Rodeway Inn this past Sunday at the game lands up on 100. A guy there had a .50 cal. muzzle loader, let me shoot it, was fun, first time I shot one. I guess in time you get used to the delay between the pull and the boom.

It's even more fun putting some venison in the freezer with one.

Flintlocks are fun! Could you imagine fighting in a war with that as your main weapon? Mind as well be the flag man or the drummer. It really didn't matter.

The fellah who owned the gun said the same thing, although he only uses it to get a couple more weeks of deer season, he's mainly a bow hunter.

It was a fun gun to shoot. A lot of work and supplies needed though.

That is flint lock. With the inline muzzle loaders with a 209 primer there isn't as much of a delay.

    Cool guns though.

Eveything is today. It costs a small fortune just to drive somewhere to have fun.

Glad to see you got off to a good start with a flinchlock, Bill.

Here's a post with a picture of mine:

Nice, yours looks more oldschool, the one I shot was a mix of yesteryear and today.

If you're going to get one, I'd stay away from T/C Firestorm. The triggers absolutely suck. Hawkins is ok, just ok. My flintlock of choice is Lyman Deerstalker in .50. I've been using mine (left handed) since 1996 for hunting in the coldest wettest weather and only ever had one hang fire.

with a properly tuned and primed lock there is almost no delay.....in fact with a properly tuned lock you do not even need priming powder.
the delay comes mainly from the actual priming charge.
it's only metal, we can out think it....
