WILMINGTON, Del. - March 10, 2010 (WPVI) -- Lawmakers in Delaware are considering a bill that would allow residents to bring hand-guns into some public places.

Outside a Wilmington daycare, opponents of the bill spoke out on Wednesday.

"Isn't it interesting the number of the bill itself is the name of one of the most deadly weapons in America, the 357," said Pastor Derrick Johnson of Joshua Harvest Church.

A co-sponsor of HB 357, State Rep. Thomas Kovach (R), promises language will be amended from restricting guns in public places to public housing complexes, saying he's protecting a constitutional right to bear arms.

"This bill is all about making sure we're not limiting a constitutional right given to all members of society not based on economic and housing restrictions," said Rep. Kovach.

Amending the bill is not good enough for opponents who are tired of violence.

"We might as well turn this back into Dodge City, the wild, wild west, "said Matthew Allen of Wilmington Peacekeepers.

Gov. Jack Markell opposes HB 357, which has not yet made its way out of committee.

It's nice to see some legislators from a liberal state trying to abide by the Constitution. I hope they get the bill passed. Of course I wasn't surprised to see the whack jobs out there not letting facts get in the way or a good story. Looks like an uphill battle to me. Joe " the idiot " Biden hasn't been re electing himself all these years you know.

Seems different agencies in the state have taken it upon themselves to bypass the legislature and make up their own policies. Until this bill was introduced most here didn't know you couldn't carry in these places. The bill was aimed at public housing. But Gov Markell came out and said that it would effect a bunch of other places that have done similar things. He he hadn't identified these other areas we wouldn't have ever known about them too.

Needless to say that the pro 2A groups were astounded that this has occurred and we all pushing for all of these policies to be stricken down.

+1. It's like the cult mentality-keep repeating stuff over and over again and people will believe it's the truth.

"Wild wild west" is their slur for us, basically like a racial slur. It implies that we're not modern or civilized.

I don't know..... maybe they do turn into the wild west. For the most part, towns in the wild west were peaceful with law abiding citizens. Criminals were often dealt with by the citizenry.
