Small game season
All,
I'm going hunting this year for the 3rd time in my life. I went squirrel hunting a couple times, but about 15 years ago. It's kinda backwards, but I decided to start because of my dog. I have a 2 year old English Cocker, and I thought it would be nice to get him into some birds. Then I started thinking, might as well go for deer, turkey, duck and rabbit (i'm not a big fan of squirrel meat or they'd be on the hit list too).
I picked up a spartan 20ga o/u, license, stamps, and I'm ready to go......If only it were that simple.
For grouse and pheasant, I'm planning a few trips to allegheny national forrest to explore a couple of the 10yr old cuts.
For duck and pheasant, I'm thinking Moraine state park. Anybody have any luck here?
With all the deer in allegheny county, I probably can't go wrong with SGL203.
I'm hoping to get some tips that could lessen the learning curve, especially with the birding. Can anyone suggest alternate locations in the Pittsburgh area? How about tactics that could save me from 'taking scenic walks' and get me into some shooting.
Also, if anybody local is looking for a hunting buddy let me know.
Thanks in advance.
