Default First True OC Day... Observations

Today was the first time it was nice enough to wear a T-shirt around. Strapped up my 1911PD and started up the Elky for the first time in 2 weeks.

First stop is Wawa for coffee. I walk over to pour my cup and there was a younger girl standing there talking to an employee. Mid-pour she sort of leans over in my direction putting herself within maybe a foot of me. This did not bother me so much as it simply made me aware of how little attention people pay to their surroundings.

Then I go to pay and of the 2 lines the shorter one was behind a middle aged guy and his 3 kids under the age of 5. The little boy was lagging behind his dad and looking at candy. The kid was a typical 3-4 year old and was not paying any attention to the fact that I was there and was sort of side stepping in my direction. If I had not said "hey little man.. you want to be up there with your dad(sort of speaking to him and sort of to his dad)" then he would have been inches away from me. I think his dad then saw that I was OC and gave me this sort of dirty look.

So within 3 minutes I had 2 not so close calls. However it was a good refresher on how people are less than aware.

Tonight I decided to treat myself to some Starbucks after dinner. When I walk in there are 2 guys sitting there chit chatting, one girl in the corner working on her laptop and an older (65+) couple infront of me in line. I notice the 2 guys sitting there are now looking straight at my hip. The couple then places their order, then I do the same. No more than 3 seconds after I place my order and stand there waiting she says to me "Pennsylvania is a Open Carry state?" We started chatting about PA & Philly, then I noticed her husband had a Harley vest on and that was an instant invitation. They were super nice people, yada yada yada.. nothing worth mentioning about the conversation really.

So the good was that a little ol' lady was educated enough on gun laws to phrase her question properly. The bad being that I think people in my Yuppeville area are for the most part totally un-aware/educated on this sort of thing. As much as I like the idea of spreading good information around to others who will ask/listen.. I fear that there might be a lot of more situations like the ones today which could be potential problems.

Close calls? What do you constitute as a close call?

None of the situations were "close calls", I used this term to hint at the fact that they had the potential to be

How do you figure they were potential "close calls"?

What's your line of thought - are you envisioning that those two people could/would have called the cops on you for OC? Just trying to understand why you think someone looking at your gun constitutes a close call.

Or do you mean someone almost bumped into your gun or you?

I'm not trying to bust your balls or anything, just curious where your coming from on this.
