    Default Moving to Lancaster maybe

I'm losing my job here in Montgomery county and may be moving to the Lancaster area to take a new one. Me, the wife, and 15 year old son.

Any suggestions regarding housing and school districts? We're probably looking at renting. It doesn't have to be right in the Lancaster area, I don't mind a bit of a drive but not what I would have from here.

    Thanks,

    Dale

You don't want to livein the city. Conestoga Valley, Penn Manor, Hempfield, Manheim Township all have excellent schools.

I can't say about the others, but Hempfield School District is very good.

Stay out of Lancaster City especially if you have children and want good schools.

You mentioned you are renting initially so you don't have to be concerned about property taxes. But if you intend to buy later I would check out tax structures as they can vary.

I went to warwick and graduated. I was and still am in to agricultiure. the best schools for that would be Manheim Central, Penn Manor, Elizabethown. As far as warwick is concerned, they just push the kids right on through, they dont hire "teachers" anymore, they just hire pushers. Houses might be cheaper in warwick, ephrata, elizabethown. Stay away from parts of Manheim Townhip, there is a richy side and not so richy side. hope that helps a little.

Stay out of Columbia as well. The town is kinda crappy and the school is not so good. I would recommend the Hempfield area.

YOU DON'T SAY WHERE YOU MAY BE WORKING IN LANCASTER.. ANYHOW YOU
SHOULD LOOK INTO ELANCO AREA, DECENT SCHOOLS AND LOWER HOME PRICES AND TAXES. WARWICK AND HEMPFIELD ARE GREAT BUT THE TAXES WILL KILL YOU ON ANY TYPE OF DECENT HOUSING FWIW

E-Town is nice too. I am biased as this is my Town.
