It looks like a manufacturing defect in the polymer to me. I don't know this for a fact, but I don't think it was the ammo. Typically you'd be able to tell from the recoil, the magazine can blow out of the pistol because of gas being vented down into the magwell. You might would see cracking on the frame rails. I'm not familiar with that particular pistol, but you may want to take the slide off, and see if where the rails meet the polymer and see if it cracked there. I'm of the opinion that it's a manufacturing defect and they'll make it right.

pt145,, the model that has this as a common problem... hopefully they got a fast turnaround time ...does anyone think a 230 grain may be too much for a subcompact gun? should i switch to 185 or 200 grain instead?

An earlier model of the pt145 was prone to frame cracking, due either to faulty materials or design. I have one that I bought in 2001 that broke after very little use. I subsequently learned from net postings that this was a common occurrence.

I sent it back to Taurus and they did a fix on it that has lasted me ever since. I've been trying to find anyone on the net who has had problems after the factory repair, but I have not run into anyone who has had a second instance of this following the repair. Some have mentioned that they put many thousands of rounds through their pt145 without a hitch.

My bottom line: I trust my pt145 now. I have never had an ftf or a fte. The trigger is gritty, but that's my only complaint. So I would send yours in to Taurus and they will make it good.

I don't think the bullet weight should be an issue. It should be able to handle any ammo made by a reputable company.

If there are limits on what ammo it can handle that should be in big bold letters in the manual or on the box because it would affect my decision to buy the gun or not. IMHO

Where did it say that in the manual?

I had one and loved it. Had no problems with it and shot a little bit of everything .45 wise out of it.
