Exclamation not a good day at the range yesterday

I got a spot I decided to shoot my 10mm glock 29 that I just transferred from my friend. I started to shoot the hollow points he had in the mag and after the 5 shot I had a ammo malfunction. I took a closer look and noticed powder all over the inside of the gun took it apart and looked through the back of the barrel and noticed the bullet is lodged in the barrel. I tried to remove it but cant, why did this happen was it a bad round or primer so it looks to be a trip to the gun shop to see if he can dislodge it and see if the barrel isn't ruined. Any ideas or help to what caused this would be great.

Were the rounds he gave you reloads? If so, it may have been a very light load, or maybe a load with no powder at all. It also may have been ammo contaminated with solvent.

Get some good ammo & try it again. (After you clear the bullet from the pipe, of course.) You can do that with a wooden dowel. Just sit the chamber end of the barrel on a towel, put the dowel in the muzzle end of the barrel & lightly tap the dowel with a hammer.

It sounds like he didn't have enough powder.Take the barrel out and take a cleaning rod and push the bullet out going foward.Good thing you didn't pull the trigger again with a new round in the chamber.

these bullets were factory hornady.I never shoot reloads, I don't know how hot people make them I'm just a little leary on hornady now cause my 3 carry guns all have hornady hallow points in them, but i think another round didn't cycle because the shell was partially in the chamber the slide didn't cycle oh well now I have a good reason to go to the gun shop and look around

Do NOT fire the gun at this point.

Sounds like not enough power to eject the bullet, but doesn't explain why you found gunpowder.

Extremely unlikely the gun is damaged at all. The bullet requires a fair amount of force to remove, so I'm not at all surprised you couldn't extract it yourself. After pressing the bullet out, examine the barrel bore for damage. Pay particular attention for a "ring" in the bore about where the bullet stopped. No ring=good. If in doubt, take it to a gunsmith.

Please notify Hornady immediately. Have the ammo box handy, as there may be additional undetected squib (underpowered) rounds in circulation.

    Do this for sure!

I'd take the gun to a gunsmith and have them inspect it too before firing the gun again, but don't know how necessary it'd be.

Odds are it won't happen again. When I was in the USAF a round "came apart" before it fully seated in my AR. This sounds a little similar. For some reason the bullet "unseated" from the casing before ignition (evidenced by unburnt powder) but that doesn't explain why the bullet would have been lodged in the barrel. I would contact Hornady.....
