Re: Brady Campaign Score Card
Are you expecting something rational?
While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

Re: Brady Campaign Score Card
This shows how they scored the states. I think the number of points they assign to certain things is a bit off, but this answers your question.
http://www.bradycampaign.org/xshare/...yScorecard.pdf
I wonder if they just kept tweaking the points for each item in a spreadsheet until they got roughly the state ranking they wanted.

And this is why the Brady's want your guns....
Only conclusion one can draw is they want MORE CRIME.

More Guns, Less Crime (Again) in 2008
Gun Ownership at All-Time High, New FBI Report Shows
Violent Crime at a 35-Year Low, Murder at a 43-Year Low
Over the last two decades, many “gun control” laws have been eliminated or made less restrictive at the federal, state, and local levels. Numbers of privately-owned guns and Right-to-Carry states have risen to all-time highs. Every step of the way, “gun control” groups have predicted violent crime would increase. Instead, the nation’s violent crime rate has been declining since 1991, and in 2008 fell to a 35-year low. In the same period, the nation’s murder rate fell to a 43-year low.
Less “Gun Control”: The Brady Act’s handgun waiting period expired in 1998, in favor of the NRA-supported National Instant Check System. Some states thereafter eliminated waiting periods or purchase permit requirements. The federal “assault weapon” ban expired in 2004. Since 1987, 30 states have eliminated prohibitory or restrictive carry laws, in favor of Right-to-Carry (RTC) laws; there are now 40 RTC states, an all-time high. All states have hunter protection laws, 48 have range protection laws, 48 prohibit local jurisdictions from imposing gun laws more restrictive than state law, 44 protect the right to arms in their constitutions, and Congress and 33 states have prohibited frivolous lawsuits against the firearm industry.1 Studies by or for Congress, the Congressional Research Service, the Library of Congress, the National Institute of Justice, the National Academy of Sciences, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have found no evidence that “gun control” reduces crime.2
More Guns: There are 250+ million privately-owned firearms in the United States.3 The number of guns typically rises by about 4.5 million every year,4 though between 2007-2008, firearm transactions cleared by the National Criminal Instant Background Check rose 14 percent.5
Less Violent Crime: Since 1991, the nation’s violent crime rate has decreased 40 percent (murder, 45 percent; rape, 31 percent; robbery, 47 percent; and aggravated assault, 37 percent. From 2007-2008, the violent crime rate decreased 3 percent (murder, 5 percent; rape, 2 percent; robbery, 2 percent; and aggravated assault, 3 percent.) States with Right-to-Carry laws have lower violent crime rates, on average, compared to the rest of the country: total violent crime by 31 percent, murder, 39 percent; robbery, 55 percent; and aggravated assault, 19 percent. States that have the most restrictive gun control laws tend to have the highest ratios of robberies (confrontational violent crimes) to non-confrontational property crimes. 6

Re: Brady Campaign Score Card
It's hilarious that Vermont, New Hampshire, Idaho, Utah, and other states with the lowest murder rates somehow get the worst ratings from the Brady Campaign.

Re: Brady Campaign Score Card
Lots of PA gun owners not doing anything activily to oppose anti-gun laws.
IF you don’t take proper care of your firearm after use, with preventive maintenance, oiling cleaning with a dry safe storage place for years what condition do you expect your firearm to be in after years of neglect?
Why is any different with your firearm rights, IF you don’t an active proper in protecting them, don’t expect them to be in the condition you JUST hope they are?
In 1995 under In special sessions on crime the UFA was greatly expanded added all kinds of new crimes and adding many new firearm laws including making private sales of handgun illegal, all of this is was under a Republican governor at the time when the Republicans held majority and controlled both houses so much for that myth democrats are the only one for gun control. So everyone can thank the Republicans in leadership in mid 1990's for PA having the 10th most restrictive firearms laws according to the Brady bunch.
After the 1995 session Sarah Brady bragged how PA (at that time) was the most progressive and had the restrictive firearms laws in the country.
All the firearm laws from the 1930's to 1995 included the great expansion was still only 50 pages total - follow this 60 years = 50 pages, since 1995 to 2008 PA has added 76 more pages to the UFA in 13 plus years, do you see where this is going at the current rate of expansion?
Do you really expect, your children or grand children to have anything left of their firearm rights in the future when the UFA is the size of encyclopedia set?
IF the anti-gunner EVER once again get the votes in PA Expect them to pass lots of gun control expect all of this to be passed into law and more unless you do you part to stop it.
PA Proposed Firearms Legislation

DID ANY OF YOU EVEN KNOW ALL OF THESE ANTI-GUN BILL ARE PENDING IN HARRISBURG RIGHT NOW?
Well IF you didn't, know right now that 30 plus anti-gun bills exist maybe you need to pay more attention and get more involved in the fight to keep your rights in PA.
How about coming to the April 27, 2010 5th anual rally to do you part to learn how to fight gun control.

Re: Brady Campaign Score Card
I see that every day, what are you talking about? Well, with one exception, it's IMITATION pixie dust.
I actually did a stupid thing.
I put these numbers into an Excel spreadsheet, and ran a correlation of these scores against the respective murder rates. There was no correlation (-0.014 on a scale of -1.000 to +1.000)Last edited by rikilii; March 5th, 2010 at 12:22 PM.
