If anyone is attending the Appleseed event this weekend at Manheim (May 15 and 16), I look forward to meeting you. I'll be the one with a 10/22 and Mosin, along with my father and his M1 Carbine. It'll be my first Appleseed, and I'm really quite thrilled to be going!

I'm hoping that in the future, perhaps an event can be held somewhere near the Lehigh Valley.

Followup on the Manheim, PA Appleseed of May 15 and 16th:

Excellent weekend. My shooting skills improved to the point where they could actually be called 'skills'. At the last AQT on Sunday, I managed to earn the Rifleman patch...WOO HOO! Went through about 600 rounds in my 10/22 over the two days. Saturday, I took my father with me. He was shooting an M1 Carbine. Being not-so-young, and wearing glasses that are more suited to working on a desk, he really struggled with the prone position, and by end of day, was ready to go home. But, his shooting also improved, so he was happy.

If you have the chance to attend an Appleseed event, DO IT. Not only will your skills improve, but you will meet some really decent people.

Thanks for the report! Congratulations on the Rifleman patch! You worked hard to earn it!

When I talk to people about it, I get the snooty "Isn't that for kids?" Yeah...until YOU try it and fail to shoot 210+ ("Rifleman's score") It looks easier than it is.

I did this last fall and got my patch. But I sandbagged-read all I could about it on the web, printed out targets, bought a 10/22, sling and tech sights, practiced the 3 positions dry firing & live firing when I had the chance BEFORE going to the Appleseed. You can too.

Although it is not billed as such, it is excellent training for CMP competitions. Its the same routine, prep, safety & rifle handling discipline.

Thumbs up Re: The Appleseed Project

    Just saw this thread.
Wife and I attended the Manheim shoot 4/17-18.
    It was a great event.
Mom's decided she wants a semi-auto now, so she can
shoot more rounds than with the bolt-action!

    We WILL attend again...

(Chainsaw, got your email for info. We were out of
touch in West Virginia for the past week...I'll get it
to you, and thanks to you and all the other volunteers.
    Rob)

Note that while the 6' x 10' cabins at neighboring Pinch Pond
campground are cozy, they are NOT heated...
