    Default Remington 03-A3 Question

I am a newbie to both this forum, and to guns in general. I have recently enjoyed my new hobby of shooting two recently purchased handguns, but I am still at the learning stage.

Recently, my father-in-law gave me his Remington 03-A3 rifle, which is in excellent conditon, but I know nothing about rifles. Like I said, I am new to the gun world, and have only recently started shooting handguns at a nearby indoor range.

My question is: Is this Remington rifle something I can shoot at an indoor range? or Will I have to find an outdoor range to play with this new toy?

These are probably dumb questions, but hey, I am asking anyway.

Not a dumb question, and best asked -before- firing.

Your 1903A3 should be .30-06, which is an outdoor round. Most ranges have a limit on the maximum energy level or velocity, usually somewhere about 2000 feet/sec. Your 03A3 is well past this point.

You'll be looking for an outdoor range, or an exceptional indoor range.

yeah, that rifle would be most enjoyed at ranges of 100 yrds or beyond. that is definitly an outdoor ''toy''. it does'nt have an indoors voice.
it's only metal, we can out think it....

Thanks for the quick reply Rifleman and Brian. Looks like I will have to convince the wife that joining the Kimberton Gun Club is a necessity .

Good luck. They never answered the phone the half-dozen or so times I called about joining.

I never called. According to their site, the first step of joining is attending one of their meetings which fall on the 2nd Thurs of every month.

I gotta tell you that you are one lucky person to get that as a gift. If no one else has fired it for some time have it checked by a gunsmith before firing it. I'm so jealous!

The gun has been sitting in a closet for years. Although it is in excellent condition, I am going to have someone look it over, and show me how to clean it. I am finding out that it really is a good gun, and I am lucky to have it.

Welcome to the site. Whatever you do, DO NOT, I say again, DO NOT, get rid of that rifle. Keep that in your family forever. You will regret if it you ever get rid of it.

To much info to include in one post....best thing to do is go to surplusrifle and start reading and printing.

One of the best sites around to learn all you need to know.
