Unhappy New Taurus going back to factory!

Got a Taurus model 94 (9 shot revolver) a few weeks ago because I was looking for a .22 and was so impressed by my model 85.

Found a good price at Bud's and had it shipped. Picked up the 94 and first time out it failed to fire 3 out of 9 rds. Did this all day and I thought maybe it just didn't like the Remington I was feeding it. Also maybe there's a break-in period, or grease binding it up ... or something. So I figured I'd shoot it some more and try different ammo.

Same results with Winchester Super X and CCI mini mags. And almost all the "duds" worked fine in my Ruger Single Six. I also noticed the Ruger made a big deep dent in the shell while the Taurus barely nicked the edge. Wonder if that's the problem?

So I'll call them tomorrow and find out the procedure for warranty returns.

At least the gritty double action trigger pull seems to be smoothing out.

Dontcha just hate when a new toy doesn't work right?

Yeah it sucks when purchase doesnt work out as planned. To me it definately sounds like light strikes. Is it always happening in the same chambers? Maybe your cylinder is mis-aligned. The address for Taurus returns can be found on their website. There is no need to call first. Unfortunately you will be without your gun for about 8 weeks. I think when a gun comes in for repair it sits on the shelf for seven weeks and 6 days. Then they fix it in a day and get it out in 8 weeks just like they said. Hope it works out.

Previous owner at the local range told me about a Taurus he sold (Beretta 92 clone) and when the fellow shot it the rounds went everywhere; turned out the barrel had no rifling in it

Did you try cleaning it before you sent it back to Taurus? Taurus shoot the heck out of thier guns before they ship them, firing pin hole could have been dirty , that mainspring is about 26lbs. you shouldnt be getting light strikes . next time just spray it down with some Gunscrubber.

Taurus will clean it up nicely and send it back to you.

I bought the 94 a week ago too, 0 problems and accurate as heck, however mine came clean from Taurus unlike my 941.

Funny you should ask that. I bought a used one that I took to the range and it misfired like hell. I said "Oh well" based on stuff I read on the web about similar problems. Cleaned it thoroughly and went back to the range with no expectations. Not a misfire. The last time I took it out I fired about 200 rounds and the ejector began to stick and I got a misfire toward the end of my session. Think the OP should clean it to within an inch of its life before sending it back.

Yep most of these Revolvers just need a good cleaning job, Taurus shoot the snot out of them before they leave for the dealers to make sure they function ok in the real world, problem is they leave all that dirt behind.

I just measured the Cylinder Gap on my 94 and it measures a scant .005, not as tight as my model 85 but i know i have to keep that Baby clean,

    My Smith 66 measures '006.

Taurus could eliminate %75 of thier service returns by making the cylinder gaps wider like Smnith and Ruger and by cleaning the Guns before shipping them.

Thanks everyone. Didn't know they were tested that thoroughly!

I'll try cleaning the hell out of it myself and take it to the range tomorrow or Wed. No sense shipping back and waiting weeks for them to do it.

I do love my 85 and still want a 941 ... after the credit card balance gets whittled down a bit
