There's a bank in the Perkasie (Bucks County) area that has installed the double door trap set up w/ metal detector in all their branches. Complete with green/red go/stop lights. When you go through the first door it latches locked behind you, and must wait for the green signal to pass through the second door.

I often carry tools around in my pockets and have wondered what would happen if I forgot to leave them in the truck? If a patron is locked in this cage wouldn't that be "improper", as in kidnapping? Hostage taking? What ever it would be called the patron is being held against their will. I don't recall seeing any signs giving the patron a warning of the trap.

I find it hard to believe the bank management would that stupid to invite a legal challenge. But then again....

I used to live in Naples, Italy. My local bank had the airlock arrangement but also had convenient gun depositories as you entered. When I went there I thought I "knew" that you couldn't possess a handgun in Europe but I was quite surprised. I still don't know what the rules were but it didn't seem to be a big deal to them.

Well they can set conditions of entry.
If my bank did this it would be simple. If I set it off I would inform them I am legally carrying like I have every week Ive gone in for the passed two years. They know this. If I was denied I would tell them I would be taking my money across the street (to the other guys ) and when would be a convenient time to withdraw all my money?

to be honest i can't believe no one has tried a lawsuit against the man traps. set off the detector, go crazy about your claustrophobia, have a panic attack, and sue for mental distress.
Then again you could replace the last step with now enter the bank armed and rob the place.

If your being prohibited from leaving i don't see how this could not be interpreted as be being detained

But they canNOT detain you unless they feel like making you rich beyond your wildest dreams.

True enough, I was thinking about that actually.

How long does it take before you have become detained? I would think its instantly really, since you are not free to go. In effect you are temporarily imprisoned.

Detention/Arrest begins the moment a reasonable person believes they are not free to leave.

    From the NovaComm website:

The Novacomm Access Control Vestibule™ automatically detects and denies entry to unauthorized people carrying weapons into secure areas. This form of protection is recommended by knowledgeable police departments and the FBI and has an ironclad reputation for effectiveness.

Actually, it is pretty easy to get a concealed handgun permit in Italy; you can't carry a 9mm parabellum, but .380s and .40s are pretty popular. Almost every business owner carries, hence the vestibule lockers.
