Default If you could buy any pistol under $1000?

Which would you get and why? I have the potential to possibly pick up a new pistol on a bet If I can do it I can get any pistol $1000 or under. I would prefer something that I would't have to carry with the hammer "cocked and locked" but something carryable and perhaps competitive if I wanted to do IDPA.

    Thanks for any input.

/bump No one with ideas/suggestions? I would like to get a .40 or .45. Preferrably not one that weighs 10 pounds but it doesn't need to be a plastic piece either.

I almost walked out of Grice's today with a new M&P40, $429.......$300 for the old Glock.....it was surely tempting!!!

Until you said .40 or .45, my answer was a nice used HK P7M8 (~$1,000) or an HK P7 PSP German Police trade-in ($499-$750)... because there's always room for one more P7.

    two glocks.

Though given the two other pistols you have, i'd still recommend 9mm.

Yeah I tried to stay with 9mm just so it was easier when buying ammo I could buy 1 type and buy in bulk but I kinda what something with more power and would like a 45. However would like to try and stay with something that is pretty safe to carry, I am a big guy and I bang into my holster already plenty so I like one that is double action. And I have the 2 9mm's should I want something that is small and light for carry, so I don't mind a heavy pistol.

    Me? Another Walther P99 - http://www.pafoa.org/forum/pistols-4...99-review.html

But since you're looking at .45 mostly, I'd say a Sig P220 with whatever bells and whistles you want (DAK, Carry model, Elite model, Equinox etc...).

There's one for sale here too - http://www.pafoa.org/forum/firearms-...220st-ftf.html - though it might be gone by the time you win the bet.

Looks like the ante is up to 1500$ so price range adjusted. I like the look of the 1911 guns but are they all single action or can I get one that is double action in that style, would like either one with a decocker (I live in an apartment and a miss on manually decocking the hammer could mean my neighbor's life, and it just in general makes me uncomfortable) and safety so I can load it, decock the hammer, and carry it DA with the safety engaged. Really got my heart set on .45 for sure. Though I think if I came across a 44 mag desert eagle for sale in that range I might do it just for giggles but the DE's are a bit rough to carry in a belt holster and I am not fond of shoulder holsters.

So far alot of good suggestions, I am certainly not talented enough to run this gun in IDPA but I would like one that perhaps I wouldn't get laughed off the range with if I decided to do that in the future.

Springfield makes a double action 9mm in 1911 model. look them up
