Need idea's for a new carry piece...
I currently carry a Ruger LCP with Hornady TAP 90 Grain HP/XTP FPD (Cabelas' exclusive). But, I'm lookin' for somethin' with a little more stoppin' power. - I used to own a Springfield Armory XD 9mm Sub-Compact. I sold it before I got to fire it. But, after thinking about it, I started to feel like it was too top heavy for me. So, that's not gonna be an option.
I'm gonna make this a poll and would like everyones opinion. Get your friends to give their input too, please. Thanks in advance!
1. Smith & Wesson M&P - 40S&W Compact
2. Smith & Wesson M&P - 9mm Compact
3. Ruger SR9 Compact

5. Glock 27
6. Taurus Mil Pro PT111
7. Taurus Mil Pro PT140Last edited by iMoses14; February 24th, 2010 at 08:52 PM.

Of the Guns you mentioned i would look into the M&P 9c, the Glock 26 is great with the Pearce mag extensions on , i wouldnt recommend the .40 cal in the small guns.

G26
Simple, rugged, proven. If you like the idea of the M&P (American made, different back straps, thumb safety option etc) then go with that but I would say all else equal, go with a known quantity...GO GLOCK!
I prefer the 9mm to 40 just because I rather practice with 9mm and since I found Corbon JHP 9mm +P with 466ft/lb (Written on the side of the box) I have no worries about using 9mm for defense.

Note about the Corbon: I know that may not translate to real world numbers with the shorter barrel and I know there is a lot more to ammo than just the ft/lb but it's wicked hot and I feel very well armed with 15+1 in my G19 and you will be very well armed with 10+1 in a G26.
Good luck with whatever you decide!

If you think an XD sc is too heavy, and want people to suggest anything on that list, your living in a dream world......
Go to a show/shop, and handle some guns, that's the only way you will find what works for you.

Re: Need idea's for a new carry piece...
I have 2 boxes of Hornady Critical Defense 9mm left over from when I had my XD. And, I also have 3 boxes of Critical Defense in 40S&W for my Sigma 40 that's setup for home defense. So, I have the carry ammo. Just need to decide on the gun.

Re: Need idea's for a new carry piece...
I've held all the guns I mentioned above. They're all between 2 - 7 ounces lighter then the XD. After drawing the XD from the holster it was harder for me to get a good stance and sight of the target. I recently tried out the M&P compact, Glock 26 & 27 and both Mil Pros. They were all alot easier for me to aquire a target from drawing from my holster.

G27 all the way. Get the 9mm coversion barrel for it so you can shoot both the 40 and the 9. The g27 is really easy to shoot.
Look to the One Who is wearing what should have been your scars...

I voted for the G27. I have one as my CC weapon. Add the pinky extension on the mag so all your fingers have a place to wrap, if not your pinky just floats in no mans land. As for the 9mm vs 40 debate I would suggest going to an indoor range and renting whatever you are considering so you can see what is most comfortable to you.
