    Default Gas block/BUIS

So, in the near future, I'm going to buy a holographic. But I was going to buy the gas block/BUIS first and use that set up until the holographic... seems to be the best way to go. So, first, I want to get a gas block with a rail on for a flip-up front site (probably Troy or MI)... I was looking for a block looking similar to what is on the stock .50 Beowulf models...

But herein lies my question: I have a Midwest Industries FF Quadrail, and from what I understand, most gas block rails do not level off with the quadrails, but are a bit lower in profile. So does this affect anything at all really? Will the front site still be of perfect use with the rear if it is mounted on that lower rail? Or are they pretty much made for that use?

    Thanks!

There is a standard "gas block rail height" and a "free-float rail height" for front sights.

If you already have a railed gas block:

If your rails cover your gas block:

If you're buying a new gas block, and want a flip-away:

Or just get a regular triangular front sight post/gas block, and have it up all the time. You get used to looking around it.

If you're on a MI kick, they also come in both heights:

There are different flip-up front buis' for gas block height (Troy-http://store.troyind.com/Gas_Block_F...bf-00bt-00.htm), and for receiver-height rails (Troy-http://store.troyind.com/Front_Foldi...bs-fhbt-00.htm).

Take you pick of mounting location and select the sight accordingly.

Ohh, ok... so If I'm looking for one on the gas block, I need to make sure the sight is "gas block rail" height?

Yea, I have the standard front sight/carry handle on yet after I got my quadrail on, so I think I'm just going to get them out of the way. I know for some people it doesn't bother them to shoot a holo with the front site on, but I think I'm just going to go with clear FOV.. So I want to go with front/rear flip-ups.

I just really wanted to be sure about the front site height-wise before ordering anything..

    Thanks guys!

That is a Yankee Hill #YHM-9394-H Hooded w/ bayonet lug & swivel, but is also available in the straight-sided: http://yankeehillmachine.com/store/product413.html

I've got one on my build and I like it, but it is still a virgin, so no field reports as of yet.

If you are looking for other all-in ones, you also have:

    ARMS: http://www.armsmounts.com/default.asp?mode=products⊂=sights&id=[hsh]41-B-L

    PRI: http://www.pri-mounts.com/mm5/mercha...e=AR15_M16_ACC

    Midwest Industries: http://www.midwestindustriesinc.com/...ategory_id=175

    and I'm sure others too.

I'm kinda liking that YankeeHill one.. Could you possibly tell me how much the one with the lug costs? (I'm at work right now and can't get on the site, and I don't want to wait until I get home.. )

    Thanks a lot!

Does the YankeeHill mount nice and solid? I like the fact it has a swivel on it too...

It seems pretty solid to me, but I've removed the swivel on mine so there will be no major stresses on it in my application; the sling will attach to the FF rails. I would say blue LockTite on the screws is a must though.
