I wondered why the 1903 Springfield fired a round designated as from 1906 until I read an article in Shotgun News, I think it was, going over the original round nose bullet.
Don't forget though, that the 1903 MkI also fired a .30 caliber pistol round via the Pederson Device.

The 00 Buckshot is a size, not a caliber, just like No.2, 4, 5, 6, 7 1/2, 8, 9. The number relates to the size of the shot. You can get 00 Buck in 12 ga, 16 ga, 20 ga. .410 in a shotgun is the anomaly, it is designated by caliber instead of gauge, it's the only one because the next size smaller is 28 gauage.
