Safety Inspection requirements for cars in Monroe?

I asked a general question in the lounge regarding if I needed emissions test for my car and found out NO. I learned this morning that I still need to get a Safety Inspection.

Can you guys give me some advice on where to go locally. Someone honest who wont try to nitpick the car in an effort to create more work (and money) for himself. Do they just look at breaks and lights, or do they look deeper? How often are the inspections done? How much do they charge for safety inspections?

you dont need emissions in Monroe, but you do in , say Northampton county, weird.

the way i look at it is this...if my brakes are truly bad I'd like to know for safety so I don't want someone to just walk around my car and say its good, but I also don't want someone trying to scam me into new brakes when I still have 1000 miles left on them.

I trust the guys there, but call and make an appt. theyre busy as hell.
