    I don't know why, but...
This is an option that should not be available on an information based forum. Neither should an edit be allowed after a certain amount of time.

Just as an example, imagine if GL would get pissed off and go back and delete every post he ever made. Or if he went back through every post and edited them to say "ten characters". It would ruin the continuity of many threads and much information would be lost.

Some forums have settings for this for the above mentioned reason, I believe mine are set to 24 hour edits/deletes. I don't run the same forum but I would think that is a standard Admin option.

seems like if you start a thread you cant delete it, but if you reply in a thread you can...this thread started out as something completely different but I realized I posted it in the wrong spot so I tried to delete it about a minute after I hit post and there was no option, so I changed it to .."Why can't you delete some posts now?"

just like classifieds..you used to be able to change the title to "closed" or something else, now you cant change the title, you can only close it and have the little padlock icon on it.

I'm pretty sure that there is a time limit on when you can delete your own post. Not sure how long though...

This ^ is how it works. Once someone replies to your thread, you can't delete it. You can delete your posts in another thread. Not aware of any time limit.

right...but what I said was that I tried to delete it BEFORE there were any replies and it wasn't an option....that's what confused me.
