Nothing wrong with any of the guns he is looking at either. the taurus is a decent pistol contrary to the naysayers, and the citadel is a good value for a lower end 1911.

Ultimately the OP needs to be happy with what he has purchased, Hell I got 1911's from a norinco to a Swenson custom they are all great guns, even my Behlert is a great gun, but My Taurus shoots as well as my Wilson and the NightHawk I got rid of.
Big difference between the STI and the Rock Island. The STI uses all STI parts, who knows what Rock Island uses.

It's still not a true STI either, we can split hairs all day, but the bottom line is they are all good Pistols and any one the OP chosses will serve him well.

Personally i was looking at the STI's earlier and they are really nice (at least appearance wise) but they ruin them w/ all the lettering IMO. This is of course up to the owners taste. A few marks here or there is cool, simplicity is big to me when it comes to this.

I have had several 1911's including a current Springfield and Taurus.

My opinion is that it's hard to go wrong with any of the 1911's on the market today since gun buyers these days have so many choices and want something of good quality for their money.

Springfields are my favorite. I bought the Taurus because of its features for the price and I wanted to see if the great reviews and big complaints were accurate. I've had many enjoyable range outtings with my Taurus. No problems at all.

Paid $469 for mine at the Harrisburg gun show a few years ago and am quite pleased with the gun and the deal.
