suggest a holster
I am looking for a leather(tan) holster for my Taurus PT1911. I was up at Cabela's last weekend and picked up a Galco F.L.E.T.C.H. holster for 1911's, but when I tried it after I got to the truck the gun didn't fit. Really tight! Too tight to actively carry and depend on being able to deploy he weapon if needed.
Any suggestions from other PT1911 carriers greatly appreciated. I am looking for leather, tan, with or without top-break retaining strap, owb at three oclock, right hand. Thanks, Bob

DeSantis Speed Scabbard. I've used them for over 20 years. They are very secure without a strap but you can get one if you want. Old style craftsmanship (still using the first one I got over 20 years ago) at reasonable price.

Re: suggest a holster
You didn't mention if you returned the Galco. Some new leather holsters are very tight & require breaking in.
If you kept the holster, wrap your gun in a few layers of wax paper & force it into the holster. Let it sit overnight & it should "shrink" the gun to fit. Some recommend using Saranwrap, but wax paper makes it much easier to get the gun in & out."It's hard to imagine a more stupid or more dangerous way of making decisions than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong."

Yes, I returned it right away. It was so tight that I could not get the gun all the way into the holster. It would have taken a fat lady sitting on it to jam it in far enough to get the strap to snap shut.

Re: suggest a holster
If I was you, I'd try several different holsters....as many as you can. Just because 1 holster works well for many people, it may not ride on your hip right. Make sure you get a holster AND belt that works well for YOU. Most of the quality leather makers offer holsters that fit well and last a long time. See if you can find a few and try them on...see what works, and enjoy!

Most leather holsters will need broken in, if they don't I don't want it. The wax paper method or using a plastic bag works. Jam it in...use the fat lady if you have to. Leather stretches.

Desantis Speed holster.
Also check out Don Hume.
Another thing I would do it check out Kydex holsters. These have done me good www.comp-tac.com"A government big enough to give you everything you have, is also big enough to take it all away.
