Default fees when purchasing from gun shop

when buying a handgun from a licensed dealer, are there fees besides state tax? I know there is a transfer fee when selling from private individual to another private individual but what about buying from a dealer? JUst want to know what I will be looking to spend before I start dickering at the gun shop. Thanks.

Depends on how the dealer operates.

I know many that just stuff the cost of PICS into the price of the gun, some tack it on at the end, some make you do PICS first and charge separately for it.

I know some who just order the gun for you @ wholesale and charge 10% above that (plus shipping).

    So really...depends on the FFL.

would the FFL still need to do the PICS if I already have a LTCF?

Yes. In PA having the LTCF does not exclude you from a PICS check. In some states, I believe, having the license or permit to carry does exclude you from a background check.

Yes, a ltcf does not exempt you from a pics check.

    It should.

That will probably lead into the PICS vs NICS debate, but I also agree with you. The only issue is that just because you have a driver's license it doesn't mean it's not suspended. Same thing could hold true for a LTCF.

As soon as you know what gun you want to buy, shop around for it. Look online, at stores, ect. . .

Know what the gun retails for. Then when your looking to buy, ask what the "out the door" price is.

Buying a gun is not like buying a bigmac. If the sticker price on a gun is more than you have seen it at other places, say that. Most gun shops will work with you to an extent. Some will not. Eitherway it's worth knowing what you are willing to pay (with in reason. No one is going to sell a 1000 dollar gun for 17 cents!!). If one gun shop will not meet a price you find fair, try another.

You must get a Pics check. As said, some shops charge extra, some add it into the guns price.
Ask questions at each store so you know what to expect.

What they said ^^^ plus, consider your unique situation. For example Buds saves you shipping and sales tax but you need to have a FFL to receive the shipment for you and do the PICS. And some places offer several hours of range time when you buy a gun from them. Background checks can vary from $5, which is what I think it costs them, to over $20.
If you don't need range time or it's not worth the travel to save a couple of bucks try to work with your nearest dealer or consider buying online.
    Best of luck to you.
