Reccomendation on single pistol case for flying please?!?!
Hey guys,
Going to be flying down to Florida to see my old man next month with my wife and kids and I want to take a pistol, probably my PF9 for ease of conceal. I know checking the firearm is (should be) easy and all, I am just looking for a good reccomendation on a case that others have used with good results. It may pull double duty as a mini-safe for my nightstand gun when I'm in bed, so a secure lock (tumbler maybe??) would be preferable. If you could link me to a site where I could buy it that would be great, just trying to avoid any "oh that isnt NTSB certified" bullshit suprises. Thanks!!!Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Amen. **PROUD III**

If you check with the airline you are traveling with they can give you some info.
That said, IIRC, it just has to be a hard case that is lockable. You will have to have it examined by the TSA to insure it meets their rules. After the exam, you will lock it and keep the key. DO NOT allow anyone to tell you that your bag has to be marked that it has a gun in it, that is against any of the airline and TSA regs. If someone persists in pushing this, IMMEDIATELY get a policeman and report it, do not let anyone bully you into this.
Your gun has to be unloaded and the ammo in a container, not in the magazine or in speedloaders. If you don't have the original box, I have never had any problems with a plastic ammo box.Ron USAF Ret E-8 FFL01/SOT3 NRA Benefactor Member

Just be careful, Phila airports are notorious for having weapons stolen from luggage.

Can a TSA approved case be locked and placed inside of your other luggage after inspection?

Re: Reccomendation on single pistol case for flying please?!?!
I use one of those hard sided, foam rubber filled cases, I have two different sizes depending upon what I am taking. I take my Super Redhawk .44 magnum with a 7 1/2" barrel when I go to Alaska requiring a big case, or one of my .45 semi-autos elsewhere.
I put one of the bicycle type gun locks in the gun's action and put it in the case, lock the case with a TSA lock, lock the case handle through a steel bar that is part of the internal structure of the suit case with a another bicycle type Non-TSA lock. This helps slow down a quick open and grab. Then I lock the bag with a TSA lock. I think that's about the best you can do.
Has worked so far. A couple of airlines don't allow firearms under any condition. I found USA3000 (if they are still around) wouldn't transport firearms after I bought non-refundable tickets. Check before you book. That was the last trip I took with those folks."Tolerance is the virtue of the man without convictions." G.K. Chesterton

This is what I was planning on picking up for airline travel and storing by itself. It's fairly inexpensive and it meets TSA guidelines (from what the description says anyway)
