The Good News is -

Wideners has Large and Small pistol primers in case lots in stock.

The Bad News is - They are Wolf Primers.

The Good News Is - They relatively cheap.

So I bought a case of each.

The Good News is - They were delivered in less than a week after ordering.

So I loaded 300 rounds of .45 ACP ( I usually load in lots of 300, that's about as long as I can stand standing at the press).

The Good News is - They worked just fine in my press and seated OK in my horribly mixed headstamped brass.

So today it was off to the range:
The Good News Is - The Wolf Primers worked just fine in my Series 80 Clark/Colt Hardball gun. But, I still have to test them in my Les Baer Bullseye gun.

The Bad News Is - They weren't as good in my S&W Model 25-2. One wouldn't fire at all, even when I loaded it into the Auto and I had 6 that needed a double strike to fire in double action even after making sure the strain screw was all the way in.

But, the Good News is - They were OK in single action.

But the Bad News Is - I only use single action for stage 4 of the PPC course. Everything else, all the other stages of PPC and all IDPA is double action.

But the Good News Is - In the end they'll be OK for practice.

But The Bad News Is - That complicates things since I've always maintained only one ammo type, not practice ammo and match ammo. Up until now they were one and the same.

But the Good News Is - I've got to go through all this again with my .38 Special loads.

Well... since your 'good news' outnumbered your 'bad news,' I guess all-in-all it was good news... right?

I got some wolf primers from wideners a couple months or so back. I found the small rifle primers worked flawlessly in .223 (the only round I reload that uses SR primers) through my AR. This is because of the firm firing pin strikes that ARs produce. The large pistol primers did not work well. I have only used them for 45 ACP so far and have had a lot of double and even triple strikes before ignition... and this has been from three different guns - two 1911s and a Taurus Millennium Pro.

Bottom line, I'll buy Wolf SR primers again, but I'll stick with Federal (if I can find them) for any other size.

LP is $140 per case

shipping and hazmat charges are additional.

You really want to try a rollercoaster, try having a misfire during an alibi stage the rapid fire match. Or having your 4th round misfire in a 10 round IDPA stage and you're shooting ESR. Now that is an emotional roller coaster.

Damn, now I'm really confused.

I went back to the range today and fired 120 more rounds to burn up the initial 300 I had loaded as a test.

Using the 25-2 in both double and single action modes, not one misfire.
