Two words...shot placement.

Re: .45 FMJ vs 9mm JHP
Sorry two seperate thoughts in my post. The OP asked about FMJ 45 vs 9 JHP and I was saying that the 9 JHP expanded more than .45 of a FMJ.
In the HP vs HP obviously the .45 is much larger.Last edited by West Chester; February 13th, 2010 at 08:30 PM.

Re: .45 FMJ vs 9mm JHP
what are we comparing here?
if you're using hp 9mm why not compare to hp45?
it's they always say, "9mm might expand, but the 45 will never shrink".it's only metal, we can out think it....

Re: .45 FMJ vs 9mm JHP
Good post - thanks for the reply. I generally do keep JHP's in my .45. The reason I posted the question is that I'm beginning to stockpile ammo & .45 is alot more expensive than 9mm. Day may come when ammo is hard to get & I have alot of FMJ ammo, so, it was more of a curiosity/what if question than what I'm carrying now.

Obviously shot placement important and you got to practice to assure good shot placement. At the same time, I know that shot placement was good enough to put a slug in the middle of the BG's eyeball, I would be overgunned w/ a 22 short. So, to me it's a combination of shot placement and terminal performance.

MMH;
I like the "overgunned w/ a .22 short" ! Yes shot placement, except when you miss somewhat.
For storage, I think money isn't as important as it appears. How many rounds would ever be carried compared to how many used in practice? My guess is a 100 for practice for everyone shot from a carry mag. Hopefully many many thousands more practiced with than actually used in self-defense. So the "answer" is handload. Buy thousands of lead bullets of a weight similar to your carry ammo. A few thousand primers and couple pounds of powder and one can practice with a .45 reasonably cheaply. Only hundreds of hollow point .45s need be purchased, for years of the best combination of speed and power.
Don't forget the back-up in .45, remember; one works great until it doesn't.

Remember two things:
1) The 9mm may or may not open.
2) The .45 will never shrink.
Hope this helps...When you are called a racist, it just means you won an argument with an Obama supporter.
