22lr pistol or rifle
Well , now that i have my tax return back ive decided to get a new toy. For some reason ive really been itching to get another 22lr for target. The problem is I cant decide if I want to get a rifle or a pistol. I found a S&W 22s with scope for a great price but I just dont know. Im better with a rifle when it comes to target shooting , but this pistol is nice and could be fun. Another problem is I cant hunt with the pistol if it came down to it, but Id have to stay with a bolt action rifle to stay in the target/hunting category.
Help me out here guys.
What I would love is a Savage Mako in 22lr if I could find one.Last edited by riverpirate; February 10th, 2010 at 01:40 AM.

Re: 22lr pistol or rifle
The last .22 I got was also my first rifle & I had target, fun, hunting & good looks all in mind when I bought it...
Henry Golden Boy
lever action can still be used for hunting. It comes in a lower model if you don't want the brass & want a reciever that will more readily take a scope (the Golden boy can be scoped too, it just is more costly)
It comes in a .22 lr l s model as well as a .22 magnum version.Let us never forget the sacrifice of those who have fought for us all.

Re: 22lr pistol or rifle
I would go with the .22 pistol. I am planning to get one soon. The .22 feels too much like a BB gun to me out of a rifle.
You might want to consider a 9mm rifle from highpoint. I has a little bit more pop to it.

Re: 22lr pistol or rifle
get a ruger charger.. 10/22 parts availability, pistol length, and it can have a tripod without pissing off the ATF.

CZ 453. The set trigger is AMAZING.
Plus, nothing shoots tighter for under $1000....at a third of the cost.

Re: 22lr pistol or rifle
If you get a pistol and hope to hunt with it, do you want a revolver? Is hunting small game with a semi-auto legal?

A nice bolt action .22LR rifle is the Ruger 77/22. With the synthetic stock and SS barrel, a good all weather gun, great for squirrels, bunnies and such.
