Do I just dremel it away? (eotech touches handguard)
So the eotech (which is raised to prevent this) touches the plastic handguard here:
I'm probably going to get the MOE mid-length handguards when they come out. Until then, should I just dremel away the part of the plastic up there? (I wouldn't dremel the eotech)
I don't want to mess up the lower 1/3 cowitness that it has as it is. So I'd like to avoid getting a riser. Also, I can't move it back any further, it hits the rear BUIS.
Short intro: this is my new DSA mid-length upper, fluted nitrided barrel, lmt bcg inside.

Re: Do I just dremel it away? (eotech touches handguard)
You could get rails for it. Not sure when the Magpul MOE mid lengths are coming out. Then you could even move it forward more to your liking.
Is the rear buis mounted in the very last slot? If not, put it there and move the EOTech back a notch.
If the above 2 don't suit you, then I say dremel away! I don't think it can hurt anything other than resale value.
I find this odd because my EOTech 512 rises above my old handguards and the clearance was less than yours. Are those Double heat shield guards by any chance? Oh well, best of luck.Last edited by 24/7dude; February 22nd, 2010 at 08:25 PM.

Re: Do I just dremel it away? (eotech touches handguard)
I just shaved the handguard down with my trusty knife (a sy s5le). It only needed 2mm to be taken off for 1mm of clearance. Didn't even get 'through'.
And ya, the BUIS is in the rear slot. No sweat now.
Also, I think these are single heat shielded.
And magpul has the mid-length (and rifle) MOE coming out in "summer" - it'll be nice when they arrive. These are a little loose.

I would personally just take the rear sight off and move the EOtech back two more rails. Would save any permanent modifications to the gun.

Re: Do I just dremel it away? (eotech touches handguard)
if it is to be used as a home defense weapon (or patrol rifle or in any scenario where you might actually have to fight with it), i would recommend against that.
you want the BUIS (Back-up Iron Sight) in case the EOTech fails.
as mentioned above, see if you can move the BUIS back a notch. i can fit an EOTech and (ARMS) BUIS on mine with the BUIS as far back as it can go and the EOTech back one notch further (so it only covers the handguard retaining ring rather than the hand guards themselves) and then it fits OK.F*S=k

Just hack away at the handguards. You are going to replace them anyway and regular handguards are cheap anyway. You could probably just sand off the ridge on top.

What kind of upper is that? I see the lower is RRA, is the upper from them too?
That rear sight looks really far forward to be the furthest back rail..."There are four boxes to use in the defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, ammo. Use in that order."

Handguards are cheap. Just file them off and sleep well.
I like my optics forward......it helps in my target acquisition.....so, personally, I'd keep it there if that's what you favor.

It juuust fits after I trimmed the hand guard a bit. Didn't even have to shave enough to get through the plastic. It's all good. Though I'd like to move it up another notch. We'll see after the MOEs are on it.
It is a new DSA 16" mid-length upper, nitride finish on the barrel, m4 ramps (cut before anno, implying they were done "right"). It locks up TIGHT with the RRA lower. It took a few good smacks to get it closed all the way. I am thoroughly impressed with the quality of the machining, no marks on the inside at all. Very clean.
Here are a couple shots of it:

Good job. And don't worry, the MOE handguards are lower than the ones you have on. If you're looking for someone to take that horrible looking UBR stock off your hands, then I guess I could take one for the team.
