What do I need to Purchase a hand gun in PA?

...For someone who is unemployed. I don't think it would be wise to lie on a firearms purchase form. I don't know if they confirm that question, but it wouldn't take too long to figure out that someone had lied. Just sayin'.

You're not hallucinating. On form SP 4-113 (10-2008) for handgun purchases, which I filled out two months ago, blocks 24-29 specifically ask for employer's information and your occupation.

I have seen the question, I leave it blank. When I turned in my application for my LTCF I asked a question about it. The Deputy said "That's not important, we don't need that." and ran it through PICS.

I'm saying it is not required. There is no state mandate for it. If there were, unemployed folks would be ineligible. Makes no sense.

I'm just trying to keep the facts on top of the noise.

For handgun sales, the information is required or no sale can take place:

037 PA Code § 33.111(d)(1) The applicant is provided an application/record of sale form and shall complete the applicable blocks as indicated on the form. If the applicant does not complete all of the required information or checks ‘‘yes’’ to any of the questions under transferee’s/purchaser’s information on the form, the sale/transfer may not take place.

Failure for a licensed dealer to get the info would be cause for state sanctions.

Unemployed folks should enter unemployed. I truthfully enter 'retired' for both employer and occupation on mine.

For whatever reason the PSP, charged with enforcement of UFA per 6111.1, has deemed it necessary to inquire as to the employer on the form and, through the regulatory process, has made it mandatory.

The LTCF process is different in that:
1. there is no similar applicable Pa code mandating the info;
2. the processing entity is a Government official, not a private business dependant upon a state license.
