Re: testing the expansion of hollow points
i often wondered about doing this, too. i'm assuming you've got someplace outside to do this?
i just noticed you're in NJ; are you allowed to discharge a gun on private property, or do you have to go a range?

Re: testing the expansion of hollow points
The best way to do this, and the most realistic IMHO is as follows.
Buy some red ceramic flower pots at Lowed or Wal mart. They MUST be ceramic! Like these:
Get the ones that would fit a volley ball in them (I cant remember the size classification)
Then, go buy some molding clay from the local arts & crafts store.
Then take grey colored the art clay and fill each clay pot with clay.
The above will give you a realistic report of how your ammo will react to a real world scenario.
The ceramic mimics bone and the clay will act like teh flesh behind the bone flesh.
Everyone always used ballistic gelatin for HP tests. But its is unrealistic.
Why?
Because the zombie's anatomy is very bony.
For instance, the center of mass is covered by the chest plate and ribs.
The head is covered by skull.
And if you really want to take this test to extreme realism, take an old pair of jeans and put it over the ceramic flower pot with clay inside.
This will mimic a "zombie" wearing clothes.Last edited by Ricochet; February 6th, 2010 at 01:25 AM.
