Re: Maryland trying to ban ownership of "assault weapons"
& for anyone to pass thru the state while transporting one as well if I am reading it right.
It could set a presedent of turn it in, or move ot of state.
It could also conflict with federal transportation regulations.
For those who say who cares, they get what they vote for...I see your point that we wouldn't want another state coming in to try to affect our legislation but I also feel we need to help support those who are fighting anti 2A legislation in all states so we can express our freedoms as we travel & so that the federal legislation isn't eventually changed in an anti 2A direction.
Everyone was all a buz when MA voted Scott Brown into office but we say who cares when MD introduces anti 2A legislation... I don't get the logic.Let us never forget the sacrifice of those who have fought for us all.

Re: Maryland trying to ban ownership of "assault weapons"
While I am a PA resident, I'm in the military and stationed in MD. I plan on buying an AR-15 later this year (aug-sept) and would be severely pissed if they decided I couldn't have one. I can think of no reason for this law and it just looks like some legislators who watch too many movies and are trying to apply a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. How many shootings have occurred using the type of weapons listed in this ban?

Re: Maryland trying to ban ownership of "assault weapons"
I'm gonna have to look up some of the stuff on this list. I've never heard of a few of them.
If the bill passes, he has to get rid of it before it goes into effect. It says he cannot even possess it.
If the gun is legal where it is being transported from and legal where it is being transported to, you can pass through a state where it isn't legal to own.

Re: Maryland trying to ban ownership of "assault weapons"
the people in MD should be able to vote against the ban , i dont think they will be able to pass the assualt weapon ban , it will die like the 1994 assault weapon ban did.

Re: Maryland trying to ban ownership of "assault weapons"
This is a shame because Maryland near Frederick, and also close to Harpers Ferry is nice indeed. I have seen some people and areas down there much more bubba then here in Schuylkill County. Go near Baltimore and the like, for freakin get it.
I never did understand why Maryland went pink, to be quite honest with you."A government big enough to give you everything you have, is also big enough to take it all away.

Re: Maryland trying to ban ownership of "assault weapons"
That is true, however, the synopsis states that it would prohibit "a person from transporting an assault weapon into the State" & we all know how certain towns in PA have attempted to pass preemptive legislation, so what is stopping MD from passing something that would violate federal preemption and then trying to enforce it at the cost of some law abiding citizen.

Re: Maryland trying to ban ownership of "assault weapons"
The "gun lobby" used to be pretty strong in Maryland so this may never make it. They've tried it before. Right now, "assault weapons" are regulated as "handguns" with the notable exception of the Colt HBAR and HBAR clones. Silly to think that an HBAR is a rifle but after you have you can stick a different upper onto and not have to have done the state paperwork.

Re: Maryland trying to ban ownership of "assault weapons"
I think I'd be more worried about that part, personally, if the wording said "through" the state. The ban on bringing them into the state may only apply to people moving there and not passing through.
I wouldn't be surprised if someone passing through got fucked by some overzealous LEO with a skewed understanding of the laws though.
