Old 16ga H&R M48
Helping out my parents clean out the attic a few weeks ago , we found one of my grandfathers shottys that had fallen between some stuff and was almost under the floor boards. My dad had said the last time he seen the shotgun was well over 25 years ago and had been up there ever since. He did not want it any longer due to the condition of EVERYTHING and gave it to me.
I started to clean it up a bit , but the rust had taken over almost everything and it was missing the forgrip.
I tried some rust removal but was not working well enough and gave I to a guy at work to hit with his bead blaster. So far the barrel had turned out perfect and he is working on the receiver.
I have since ordered a new stock and forgrip for it but unsure how to refinish the metal.
I do not plan to fire it , as it is going to be a hanger. I really wanted it to look nice since it was my grandfathers and he has his name engraved into it.
Any ideas on how much it would cost to be re-finished ? And what finish would make it as close to original yet keep an "old look" ?
I do not want to that part myself. I'd rather pay a gunsmith. There is quite a bit of pitting also at spots.
Also any suggestions for someone to do it in the Montco/ Berks area ?

Look into some Birchwood Casey finishes. I think I would finish it in brown since its so old.

It had a date code of "I" I think it was , which according to my research places it manufactured in 1948
