Default Greetings from a new member

    Hello everyone.
I grew up in the Pennsylvania but because of my job I moved out of the state many years ago.
I'm now living in Ohio and I have a CCW permit for that state. I still come back to PA to visit family from time to time so I'd like to get a non-resident permit. Unfortunately there is no reciprocity agreement between OH and PA.
What is the procedure for getting the non-resident permit?
I assume that I go to the courthouse to fill out the paper work. Do I need to bring a passport size photo? Anything else I need to have with me? How long does it usually take?

    Thanks!

I'm a little surprised and disappointed that no one has replied. That's not typical of most gun related forums that I frequent.
I guess I'll just have to figure it out on my own next time I'm in PA.

You will have to go to the court house and fill out the paperwork. In Pa, not every LTCF has a picture on it. In some areas, you have to request and pay extra for a photo card. Some counties will only issue photo cards and they take the picture right there.

In Pa the county sheriff has 45 days to issue your license. Some take all 45 days (lehigh county) others will issue with in 15 mins. It depends on which county you will be applying in.

    Hope this helps.

If you have an OH permit, apply to Centre Co., for a Pa. Non-res. LTCF.

    http://www.co.centre.pa.us/sheriff/l...pplication.asp

Centre is the easiest to get a non-res. from.

It is all done through the mail, also.

    Thanks guys.
I would be applying in Monroe county but maybe I'll try doing it through the mail...didn't know you could do that.
    Thanks again!

First off welcome to the forum.

Second I'm not sure how easy it is to get a non-res here in Monroe, but I do know that getting a res LTCF isn't that easy. Lots of hoops to jump through.

Have you thought about getting a Utah license? That will be accepted here in PA and with many more states then the PA one will get you.

You may want to reconsider Monroe, like Tootie pointed out, that sheriff is wierd.

I'll look into the Utah license if it can be done through the mail. That, or Centre county PA.
I'll let you know how it works out.

    welcome to the forum.

Monroe will almost take all 45 days, and they're not too quick to let you do it through the mail, they want you to come in person. I did it through the mail once for a renewal because I practically begged them to let me since my work hours did not let me go in person when they were open.

I have known one or two people in Monroe county that were from Jersey that had non-resident LTCF, but I'm not sure if they actually got them IN Monroe, I always assumed they did but that might not be the case.

As stated, Centre County would probably be your best bet for Non-res.

I went with the advice to do it through the mail with Centre County and it took less than 2 weeks to get the permit, so thanks to everyone who suggested that.
I sent in a photo with the application as the instructions requested but they returned the photo and on the permit where the photo would go it says "valid without photo".
Is this the same for the resident permits also? Just curious because Ohio permits are plastic cards with a photo, just like a driver's license rather than a piece of paper.
