Default Holmesburg Fish & Game Update

Here's an update on Holmesburg Fish & Game in Philadelphia...

The bad news: our lease sucks, and legally, the city can shut us down anytime they want.

The good news: We have at least 1/2 lawyers offering free services, the NRA, the PA Game Commission, important State reps in Harrisburg, and some very valuable (and influential) Philadelphia City Council people on our side.

Legally, we don't have a leg to stand on, but politically, things are going in our favor. I'd say we have a very good chance of staying open.

This is great news for members like myself. If anyone in Philly is looking for a nice gun club to join, this is the place. If you are interested in joining and need a sponsor let me know.

    The HF&G Protective Association Lives!
    Status as of 4/1/08
We have reached an agreement in principle with the City of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Prison System. Philadelphia City Council members Krajewski and O'Niell met with Everett Gillison, the Deputy Mayor for Public Safety today. The agenda that the HF&GPA executive committee gave to the City Council people was largely accepted by the Deputy Mayor. We expect that the final agreement will be drafted and ready for signatures in the next week or so. Details will be provided here as soon as that document is finalized. A brief synopsis will also be published in the club paper.
Please note: This is NOT the same agreement we have on the Messages/Contacts/Letters page of this site!
What can you do at this point? It's not too soon to start writing your letters of thanks. Philadelphia City Council members Krajewski and O'Niell are certainly at the top of that list. Also Mayor Nutter, Deputy Mayor Gillison and Prison Commissioner Giorla are worthy of our gratitude. All I can say is what a difference a change in administration makes! Any other political support you know that was involved should also be recognized.
The new agreement should allow us reasonable access to club facilities enabling us to retain the maximum number of members and recruit the maximum number of new members. This was absolutely essential to our survival and our future as an organization. While there is never a guarantee of a future, today that future looks much brighter than it has in years past.
Thank you all for supporting your club!
It is your actions as ladies and gentlemen that has brought us to this point. Congratulations!

Question Re: Holmesburg Fish & Game Update

Who are the friendly members of Philthydelphia City Council?

I'll make sure that I help their re-election campaigns.

Question Re: Holmesburg Fish & Game Update

That looks like about all of them.

You're saying that they're ALL supportive of this range's remaining open?

I know that Frank Rizzo, Joan Krajewski and Brian O’Neill are the 3 major supporters but,the rest were on the club's side as well. It was the Prison system people that were against it.
