Dang you beat me Roscoe. Type 38 Arisaka I think.

P.S. Maybe a Type 99. Any other markings on the bolt? like 6.5mmx50mm vs. 7.7mmx58mm?

Looks like just surface rust also, it should clean up nicely.

If you are looking to get rid of it, you may have luck over here:

    Can't be 100% sure, but I'm about 99.8% sure its off of early(late 1939 or early to mid 1940) Arisaka Type99 (7.7x 58).
Unfortunatly, just by looking at the bolt, its almost impossible to tell if its off of Type99 or Type38(6.5x50SR).

Here is pic of both bolt I have...

top one is off of my early Type99 with anti-aircraft caliper sight.
Bottom is off of my real early(1906 manufactured) Type38.
    They are almost identical.

    here is another angle...

Top one's(T99 bolt) safety knob's center is not perfectly smoothed out like that of T38. Thats like only visual difference I see.

Ammo for Arisaka rifles, which were often battlefield pick-ups or souvenirs, was not readily available in the United States for sometime after the war. Consequently, many of them were rechambered for other easily obtainable
    calibers.
Many Type99 was converted to shoot .30-06. by lengthening the chamber of the rifle slightly (from 58 to 63mm), the 7.7 case is slightly wider than the .30-06 and uses a slightly larger-diameter bullet, there for a .30-06 cartridge case will swell slightly to fit the over-sized chamber.
However, standard .30-06 bullet with a .308 diameter will not provide a good fit to the type 99, since bore was .310-312dia. So it would be better to use easily obtainable .303british bullets would provide a proper fit.
Similerly, many Type 38 was converted to shoot .257Roberts as it and the original 6.5x50SR share case and projectile diameters, differing only in case length - the .257 being slightly longer.

Find some empty .30-06 case. If it fits to extractor, its off of T99. If don't fit at all, then its off of T38.

Okay i was actualy wrong - I tried to see if 6.5 would fit in to 77 bolt(and visa versa), and they do.
So 06 case would fit both of bolt.
Let me do some search and see if i can figure out way to 100% tell which bolt it is..

Excellent help Mity2. I do not own either rifle so I could not formulate a test to determine which is which. I remembered the meat tenderizer textured bolt but that is the limit of my knowledge with this firearm.

Look at how the base of the bolt handle is machined. If they were machined that way for each model then what he has is a Type 38. There's no tapering at the end of the square part of the bolt handle of the Type 38. The same as his. The Type 99 is machined more right there with the end of the square part tapered a bit.
