    Question savage 940a 12 gauge

So i was handed down my first shotgun today. It was an old savage 940a 12 gauge and the barrel is 36 inches long. I just want to know if anyone knows anything about it because i cant find any info about it. i also would like to know if this gun can fire a slug. If you have any info on this shotgun please let me know. i could really use it.

    thanks in advance

Do you know the history of the gun? care? condition etc? If not the safest route would be to take it to a gunsmith and have them check it out for ya.

As for the slug firing you'd have to see if its a 2 3/4" only or a 3" chamber, that should be listed somewhere on the barrel. Also you'd have to check to see if its choked or not. Slugs don't like chokes
